I wouldn't be caught dead in love," sings Francesca Belmonte on Tricky's 10th album. His simplest, possibly catchiest, album knows something about false idols, opening with a Patti Smith interpretation and ending with "Passion of the Christ." Tricky's spectral presence is always a pleasure, especially with beats as robo-funky as those on "Bonnie & Clyde" or the guitar-driven downtempo disco of "Is That Your Life." It's remarkable how clean False Idols sounds, with an especially dainty "Chinese Interlude" and controlled noise bursts that distinguish The Antlers remake "Parenthesis.
